Tamara Fuerst
Tamara Fuerst is a fourth generation ASL user and has worked with PIE as a Deaf Interpreter since September of 2007. In addition to her position as a staff interpreter, Tamara serves as the Training & Development Coordinator at PIE and is involved with the American Sign Language Mentoring Program (AMP). Tamara also works part time for Sorenson as a Language Mentor. Tamara graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, and attended Gallaudet University and MATC-Madison. Before joining the team at PIE, Tamara worked at Metavante as an Arbitration/Compliance Specialist for 14 years. Tamara is currently working toward becoming an RID Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI). Her family background and experiences have given her many insights into ASL. Working at PIE has provided Tamara with experience interpreting in numerous settings that include but are not limited to, the medical setting, legal setting, mental health setting, interpreting with Deaf/Blind consumers, and more. As a part of her on-going commitment to the field of interpreting, Tamara is involved with the WisRid Performance Committee. In addition to her future work, Mrs. Fuerst plans to give presentations and workshops on subjects including interpreting models, foundations of using American Sign Language (ASL), and CDI/Hearing interpreter team training. Mrs. Fuerst is committed to assisting interpreters as they find their expertise in interpreting skills and for deaf consumers to receive the utmost satisfaction in interpreting services.
