Legal Interpreter Training Institute

TRAINING INCLUDES:

PART ONE

Part 1 focuses on the roles of legal interpreters and courtroom personnel; the modes of interpreting; the code of conduct for court interpreters; what constitutes a legal setting; the basic structure of the court system; laws pertaining to interpreting; objectives for continued training; prerequisites for interpreters working in legal settings; assignment preparation; text analysis of a guilty plea disposition; presenting the interpreters qualifications; and testifying to prior provision of interpreting services.

(Part I or its equivalent is required before proceeding to Parts II or III.)

PART TWO

Part 2 is an independent study which includes reading and writing requirements; observation of courtroom proceedings; journals; text analysis; and study groups with specific goals. For more information about the Independent Study, contact Stephanie Kerkvliet (stefkerk@execpc.com).

PART THREE

Part 3 is a series of seminars which focus on specific topics on an in-depth level. These do not have to be taken in consecutive order.
